Our Services
Complete all-in-one projects or ad hoc individual services – you choose!
When you trust your publishing to Memory Lane, the choice is yours – whether to opt for a full one-stop service encompassing every aspect of your project or to ‘pick and mix’ specific services according to your requirements and budget. You might wish to write or commission your own book text, for example, or manage your own printing and storage. We’re completely flexible – but rest assured that we have not only the knowhow and skills but the experience to deliver whatever you require to the highest creative and technical standards.
Design
Attractive, appropriate eye-pleasing design is at the heart of what we do, from first speculative concepts to the final page and everything in between. With a superb pedigree in book and cover art, our graphic designers are multi-skilled professionals with an eye for the elegant, a passion for detail and an unwavering commitment to the brief you give. They will manage every facet of the design process for you, from publication formats to final artwork files that are ready for print.
Authoring
Whether you’re planning a full-scale book or a brochure-style guide book, you require content that’s crystal clear, authoritatively written and makes a great read. With a long list of acclaimed published work behind them, our team of writers know the museums and heritage sector inside out and will work closely with you to create a text that delivers on every level. With our contacts, we can even commission an introduction or foreword from a high profile third party!
Project management
Managing a publishing project takes time, skill and diligence – plus the discipline to see it through on schedule and within budget. The demands can be enormous for any heritage site, to undertake on its own. This is where trusting your project to us can bring real, tangible benefits. To an agreed fixed budget, a dedicated project manager will oversee every stage of the creation and production process – keeping you involved and informed, resolving any issues as they arise, and freeing up your time to focus on your key tasks.
Editorial
Editorial skills are the backbone of publishing. Great editors have a priceless ability to polish prose, eliminate errors and flag up inconsistencies to ensure that your publication flows and communicates with clarity and style. Add to all this a special knowledge of British history and a forensic eye for detail at copy editing and proof stage and Memory Lane has the perfect combination of editorial skills for heritage publishing – all at your command when you trust your project to us.
Illustration
Illustration can lift a publication in a way that photography alone cannot do – but matching the right illustrator to a project can be an art in itself. Memory Lane can call on the skills and brilliance of some uniquely talented UK-based illustrators, all with experience in the heritage sector and each with their own specialist field. So if you need exclusive illustrations for a children’s book, for example, or drawings or engravings that bring out the character of your buildings, gardens or monuments, we have the artists to make your project truly shine.
Photography
Outstanding visuals are a prerequisite for any publication, from promotional material right through to large format coffee table-style books. We use expert photographers who specialise in capturing not just the beauty and elegance of the UK’s heritage attractions but also their personality and character. When it comes to putting your attraction in the picture, our photographic team is simply the best in the business.
Picture research
Choosing the right pictorial material for your publication is guaranteed to boost its look and appeal. Memory Lane has links with many of the UK’s main picture agencies including the renowned Mary Evans Picture Library, whose archive stretches back to the birth of photography itself. We can undertake picture research on your behalf and also trawl through your own archive in search of pictorial gems. Remember that exploiting the treasures in your own archive – essentially your own intellectual property – is always a sure way to minimise your investment costs!
Ecological printing
Memory Lane has spent years carefully selecting the UK’s most reliable printers and partnering exclusively with those who deliver exceptional print quality, dependable service, and outstanding environmental standards.
We never print overseas. By keeping production within the UK, we minimise our carbon footprint while supporting British businesses. It also gives us complete control over quality — right down to personally checking every page as it comes off the press. We’ll even invite you to join us for a day at the printers to see your brand new publication literally roll off the presses!
Marketing
Having devoted precious time and resources to creating a book, guide or publication to be proud of, why hide it under a bushel? With our background in direct marketing, we have the in-house expertise to ensure that your creation gets the publicity it deserves. We can organise a book launch or book signing – or produce anything from point of sale, posters, leaflets and postcards to online flipbooks and social media content – all manner of inventive ways to get maximum coverage for your new publication and raise the profile of your site or special event.
Storage
We know that storage space can be at a premium for museums and heritage attractions of all kinds. When so much of your space is given over to precious artefacts and valuable archives, finding room for boxes of books, brochures and printed material of any kind is sure to be problematic. We have a solution to storage issues in the form of a dedicated warehousing and fulfilment partner who will hold and despatch your stock on your behalf. Based in Essex, their secure facilities are fully insured against fire, theft and damage. You can arrange delivery to your offices or retail outlets on a piecemeal 'as-and-when' basis, with despatch guaranteed to anywhere on the UK mainland within 24 hours. Best of all, you pay only a nominal fee for a service that will lessen your load in more ways than one!
